Walking the Eastern French Pyrenees – Midleton

Day 1: Arrival at Carcassonne
Arrival at Carcassonne airport, Ryanair Flight FR9019 departs Cork at 9:45am arrives Carcassonne 1pm, meet and greet by tour leader and transfer to mountain village of Font Romeu (around 2h30 min). You will stay at the 3* hotel des Pyrennees, family run and located in the centre of the village with nice views of the mountains around.

Day 2: Moros peak (2137 m) – Local walk
Today start from the hotel and you will enjoy a perfect walk to discover the area. You will walk some of the famous GR10, long distance trails that cross the Pyrenees from coast to coast. You will get amazing views of the Altiplano Cerdan, Catalane Mountains where you will the strong Mediterranean influence. You will walk towards the Calme hut, and back through a different track on the ski resort side.
Walk 1 : 18 km distance 580 m ascent.
Walk 2 : 12 km distance 390 m ascent

Day 3: Aude lake (2136 m) – Bouillouses lake
Short bus transfer of 25 min. Bouillouses is a registered natural site, known throughout France and Spain for its rugged landscape and many lakes.
An impressive dam was built on Lake Bouillouses in the early twentieth century to control the flow of the river Têt and provide electric power to the mountain railway – the “Train Jaune.” Both groups will get to the Bouillouses hut and will walk along the lake to get a good feel of the area.
Walk 1 : 17 km distance 680 m ascent.
Walk 2 : 14 km distance 410 m ascent

Day 4 : Eyne Valley
A short transfer to the village of Eyne (15 min). A very different walk today in the natural reserve of the valley of Eyne. The valley is amazing by its beauty, remoteness, flowers and mountain vegetation. Both groups will walk along the valley. The harder group will get to the col de Nuria (2683 m) for a challenging walk to the Spanish border, while the easier walk will return back the way before going on the nice track (the GR 36) to the finish the walk at the village of Llo.
Walk 1 : 18 km distance 1080 m ascent.
Walk 2 : 11 km distance 420 m ascent

Day 5: Free day
Many options today available, just relax at the hotel and enjoy the indoor swimming pool or visit one of the local farms where you can sample local products, take a local stroll in the village and enjoy the bars, restaurants and shops of Font Romeu, or go for a walk following the advice of the local guides.
Take the famous “Train Jaune” (Yellow train), iconic train line through magnificent mountain scenery, to visit Mont Louis or Villefranche de Conflent, Unesco site towns.

Day 6 : Camporells Lake and hut (2250 m)
After a bus transfer of 30 min, you will start from the ski resort of Formigères (1740 m). You will climb up to a hill called “Serre de Maury”, then go down to the site Camporelis, the lake and the hut, a site nested between the Peric peaks and Carlits mountain. This site of high mountain character will offer magnificent views of about 12 lakes around! The easier group will enjoy a walk to the Lladura hut, the Estany de Vallserra lake. Both walks will finish in the resort of les angles.
Walk 1 : 16 km distance 700 m ascent
Walk 2 : 14 km distance 360 m ascent.

Day 7 : Carlit Lake (2400m) and peak (2921 m).
For your last day you will walk from the hotel. The harder group will return to the magnificent area of Bouillouses lake to a different area, at the foot of the Carlit and will pass many lakes like the Estany llat lake, trebens lake, Castella lake. The easier group will enjoy a local walk passing all the nice villages around, Odeillo, the famous Sun oven, Via and Bolquiere folllowing the trail of the tour of Cerdagne.
Walk 1 : 13 km distance 905 m ascent.
Walk 2 : 10 km distance 186 m ascent

Day 8 : FAREWELL!
Early start to transfer to you flight Ryanair FR9020 from Carcassonne to Cork. (2h30 transfer).
