Walking Écrins National Park – the Essentials
The Écrins National Park is a protected area of soaring mountain peaks, lush meadows, rushing streams, mirror lakes and beautiful scenery in the heart of the French Alps.
The park attracts outdoor enthusiasts every year, in particular hikers and climbers to the hundreds of kilometres of walking and hiking trails with spectacular views over the surrounding peaks, as well as to the many unique climbing and mountaineering spots. It is of course the scenery that is the main attraction, and the Écrins boasts more than 100 mountain peaks over 3000 metres in altitude, with the Barre des Écrins at 4102 metres being the highest point. It is also well known for its’ large number of glaciers.
