Itinerary – Walking Tyrol Austria

Day 1: Arrival Mayrhofen
Arrival at Munich airport and bus transfer (less than 3h) to the village of Mayrhofen, nested at the end of the Zillertal valley in the Tyrol region.
The village is nested in the middle of four nice alpine valleys. To the east is the comparatively shallow Ziller valley. The narrow Stillup is to the south. The Zemmgrund sits beneath the highest snow-capped peaks and glaciers. The broad Tux valley is to the west. All of which makes it a wonderful spot for walking.
You will stay in the 3* comfortable family run hotel Jagerhof ideally located in the centre of the village.
Dinner included.

Day 2: Penken Summer Pastures
Two walks that will give you a very good overview of the area, perfect for a first day.
The group takes a cable car to Penken and the walk follows a circuit through open pastures, abundant with wild flowers in spring and summer and with magnificent views of the valley floor and the surrounding mountains.
9.5k with 460m of ascent.

Day 3: Down the Zamserbach
Today, you take the spectacular journey up to the high Schlegeiss Dam at the head of the Zamserbach Valley. The reservoir here is surrounded by dramatic glaciers and high snowcapped mountains.
We will explore the lakeside path and then descend below the dam to the valley floor, from where we take a quiet path down the valley alongside the river.
9km with 450m ascent and 640m of descent.

Day 4: The Gerlossteinwand
Today we walk in the mountains east of Mayrhofen, through the hills before descending to Brandberg in the Ziller Valley.
The walk follows a good path that skirts around the base of the Gerlossteinwand before descending to Brandberg.
11km with 480m of ascent 850m of descent.

Day 5: Free Day
On your free day you may wish to visit the historic city of Innsbruck or take the narrow gauge railway to the Achensee lake.
Alternatively plenty of adventurous activities available, including rock climbing or via ferrata, contact us.

Day 6 : The Upper Tux Valley
Today travel to the head of the Tux valley to explore high ridges and remote Alpine valleys, with snow-capped peaks close at hand. We start by taking a cable car to gain height. Then the walk ascends to a mountain hut followed by a descent into a beautiful and remote valley past a dramatic waterfall and finally returning back to the main valley floor.
9.5km 300m of ascent 810m of descent.

Day 7: Edelhütte
Today we use the Ahorn cable car which takes us up to the high slopes south of Mayrhofen. The prominent mountain is the Ahornspitze, the highest summit in the immediate vicinity at over 2,950m, providing great views of Mayrhofen and the surrounding valleys. The walk contours around the hillside, through meadows rich in wild flowers, and then we ascend to the Edel mountain hut, from where there is an option to walk out to the fine viewpoint of Am Glatzer. Our return journey descends more steeply and then contours to re-join our outward route.
9km with 560m of ascent.

Day 8: Farewell!
Transfer to Munich airport to match the group flight.
