Andorra, jewel of the Pyrenees – Walking Holiday – Itinerary

Sat 3rd Oct. : ARRIVAL.
Pick up at Barcelona El Prat airport at 11h25, at the arrival of Ryanair FR3977 from Dublin, welcome by your guide and transfer to La Massana (around 3 hours) to your 4* hotel Magic Ski in the centre village with bar and spa.

Sun 4th Oct.: Walk the Incles valley
After a bus transfer in the morning of 40 min, you will walk from the mountain village of Soldeu. Lovely walks to discover the area in Val d’Incles, remote, wild and beautiful, also very varied with lovely forests, lakes, Mountain chalets and river streams. The Incles valley hosts a wide variety of flora and fauna, but it has also managed to retain its wild character. Known as one of the largest valleys in Andorra, this great unknown will surprise you with its natural gems.

Mon 5th Oct.: Walk Vall de Sorteny
Short bus transfer 15 min am and pm. Declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO since October 2020, the Sorteny Valley Nature Park has a great diversity of flora, with more than 700 phanerogam species. More than 50 species are endemic in the Pyrenees. Start the walk following the lovely river of Riu de Rialb. Pass by Borda de Sorteny hut (sometimes open to buy a drink). The more challenging walk will climb the way up to Estanyo Lake (2350 m). Very wild and remote valley.

Tue 6th Oct.: Vall del Madriu – Engolasters lake
The Madriu-Perafita-Claror valley was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2004 due to its landscape value. The preservation of a major valley in its entirety is an unusual fact, and the only case that has occurred in the Pyrenees.
Engolasters is the most famous lake of Andorra. Also called Llac d’Engolasters in the original Catalan, it has a surface area of seven hectares and you can see the remain of the original dam turbine. Walk across two valley from Vall Madriu to Engolaster lake. Pass by Refugi de Fontverd hut (sometimes open to buy a drink).

Wed 7th Oct.: Free day
Many options are available from a trip to Andorra La Vella, the capital of the principality which has various museums worth visiting including the Bicycle museum. Other options are the Spa in Caldea, the sanctuary of Meritxell, or again a half day Via Ferrata. You can also reach easily by taxi the Tibetan bridge of Canillo (16 Euros entrance ticket), the longest Tibetan bridge in Europe (600 m long) offering amazing views of the valley of Valira d’Orient.

Thu 8th Oct.: Pessons lakes
After a bus transfer of about 45 min the bus will leave the group at Grau Roig. Walk will follow Pessons valley and all its beautiful lakes lakes. The walks will take you to lovely wonderful lakes like Estany del Cap del Pessons, Sisé estany, Estany del Meligar, Estany Rodó, Estany primer and many more ! This walk will also give views of the valley going down to Encamp.

Fri 9th Oct.: Comapedrosa
After a short transfer 15 min, you will walk in the natural park of Valls de Comapedrosa.
In the lower part of the valley, you will walk through hazel thickets and Scots pine forests, open spaces resulting from agricultural activity, as well as the remains of ancient dry stone walls, with meadows and borders. Then, once you reach Pla de l’Estany, with its lake of glacial origin, you’ll discover a host of plant species, including dog’s tooth, daphne and whole-leaf primrose, to name but a few.
Possible to stop by the hut if open. Walk down the same path.
