Snowshoeing holiday – Italian Alps – Val Devero  – Val Fornazza

This trip will explore a preserved part of the Italian Alps, located north of Lake Maggiore and on the south side of the Swiss border.
Plenty of lakes, wide spaces, plenty of huts, very few downhill skiing infrastructure and open views make it a paradise for winter outdoors activities such as ski touring and snowshoeing.

Airport: Fly to Malpensa, group transfer meets flight from Edinburgh.
Accomodations:
Albergo Casa Fontana Val Devero in Val Devero.
Hotel Aalts Dorf in Val Fornazza
Included:
– One France Outdoors European mountain leader for the week to guide the 6 walks and coordinate the trip.
– Malpensa airport pick up and drop off. Transports during the trip.
– 3 nights in Albergo Casa Fontana in twin rooms and triple rooms.
– 4 nights in the hotel Aalts Dorf in twin rooms and triple rooms.
– 7 breakfasts. 7 Dinners.
– 6 guided walks with International Mountain leader.
-Sticks, and safety tools (transceivers, probes and shovels) with qualified international mountain leader.

Day 1 Transfer to Val Devero (1650 m)
Pick up at Malpensa airport and transfer to Casa Fontana (2 hours).
This charming Albergo, offers great local cuisine and mountain atmosphere, a real Val devero experience!
Stay in Albergo Casa Fontana for the next 3 nights.
Dinner included. Day 2 Monte Cazzola (2330 m)
In the morning, we walk from the Albergo in the direction south, in the forest first following the valley di Buscagna and to Monte Cazzola.
Superb views of Valley Bondonero from the top.
Breakfast and Dinner incl. Lunch not incl. Day 3 Pizzo Troggi (2309 m)
Walk from the Albergo in the morning, in the direction of the 3 lakes Sangiatto.
Then you will walk up to a ridge and will climb Pizzo Troggi.
Good quality snow on the north face descent “almost” guaranteed!
Breakfast and Dinner incl. Lunch not incl. Day 4 Lago di Devero (1850 m) – Transfer to Val Fornazza.
In the morning we will take a short walk to Lago di Devero to see this superb part with open spaces we haven’t seen yet.
Possibility to get lunch in mountain hut near the lake.
Then transfer by private vehicle to Val Formazza (1733 m), the next valley up north from Val Devero.
This area on the south side the Swiss border is also a paradise for fans of winter mountain and open spaces. (1 hour transfer).

Stay in the family run hotel Aalts Dorf for the next 4 nights
Breakfast and Dinner incl. Lunch not incl. Day 5 Corno di Nefelgiu (2934 m) ridge
Today leave your hut taking the south direction of the valley Morasco.
Possibility to get to the ridge of Corno di Nefelgiu and see the views of Morasco lake.
Breakfast and Dinner incl. Lunch not incl. Day 6 Rifugio Maria Luisa (2150 m)
Take a classic walk of Val Fornazza to Rifugio Maria Luisa.
From there, many possibilities to extend the walk, including walking on the south faces above the hut to enjoy panoramic views of Toggia lake.
Breakfast and Dinner incl. Lunch not incl. Day 7 Rifugio Miryam (2050 m)
Short transfer in the morning to the village of Fruttwald (1400 m), then nice walk in the forest to the Vanino open Plateau.
Explore this beautiful valley, get to Miryam hut, and time permitting walk to Vannino lake.
Breakfast and Dinner incl. Lunch not incl. Day 8 Farewell !
Transfer to Malpensa airport to catch your flight.
