Snowshoeing Alps – Italy Cogne – Rosemary Group

Day 1: ARRIVAL.
Pick up at Turin airport, at the arrival time of the group flight Jet2 LS719 Edinburg to Turin arriving at 10:35 am, welcome by Vincent and transfer to Cogne – Aosta (2h).
Cogne lies at the confluence of the rivers Valnontey and Urtier some 1534 meters above sea level. It is, therefore, an ideal point to base yourself for discovering the Gran Paradiso National Park.
With the huge choice of snowshoeing routes and mountain sides, around Cogne and its multiple valleys we will easily find the best snow conditions.
Transfer to your family run 3 star “Hotel du Grand Paradis” in Cogne. This hotel offers nice rooms, a bar and a jacuzzi and is ideally located right in the centre of Cogne.
Dinner included.Day 2: Gimillian loop walk
Today, after a short transfer to Gimillian we will start with a south face, loop walk at the foot of Tsaplana summit. Panoramic views of Gran Paradiso glaciers along the walk. A gentle climb for this first walk and relatively short distance, the walk is extendable with an extra loop in the Tarabouc valley.
In 1856, the king Vittorio Emanuele III created a conservation area to protect the ibex that was about to be extinct. Then in 1922, the area was extended and the first Italian National park was officially created.
Walk: Views of Gran Paradiso 320 m ascent – 8 km

Today’s you will discover the beautiful Urtier valley east of Cogne.
After a 10 minutes transfer, we will start the walk from the water fall of Liliaz, transformed in the winter into a playground for ice climbers. Then a nice walk initially through the forest will bring us to open valley of Urtier. Possibility to walk up to the chapel “Cappella degli Alpini”.
Walk: 380 m ascent – 12 km

Today short transfer by minibus to the village of Ozein (1400m), in the direction of Aosta. Lovely walk with open views to Aosta valley, and Mont Blanc.

Enjoy your free day in Cogne, you can go cross country skiing, downhill skiing, take a day trip Aosta or just relax around Cogne or at the hotel!

Today we will explore the valley of Valgrisenche near the French border, one hour 15 minutes transfer. This valley is very famous for ski tourers climbing “Testa del Rutor” 3486M. We will take a loop on the West faces of Valgrisenche, offering spectacular views of high mountains at the French Border.
Walk: 540 m ascent – 9 km

Short transfer to Valnontey hamlet. Today is a nature day in one of the two valleys Valnontey south of Cogne near the Gran Paradiso Summit or Valeille the valley south of Lilaz, depending on snow conditions. The main interest of this walk today is to discover the mountain from a different angle, at the foot of the massive glaciers of the National Park, and with a bit of luck to observe wildlife like Chamoix or Ibex.
Walk: 350 m ascent – 10 km
