Itinerary – GR10 trek

Day 1: ARRIVAL – Join Gavarnie (1385 m)
Pick up at Toulouse airport, the group will be welcome by the France Outdoors Guide for the trip and transfer to Gavarnie (2h 45 min) at the gate of the National park to a local 2 * hotel.
Grandiose! How else to describe the Cirque de Gavarnie?
This UNESCO enlisted site with its huge limestone cliff forms a unique horseshoe and is a great place for hiking.
Stay in a 2 * hotel for the next two nights.
Dinner not included.
Day 2: WALK – Gavarnie (1385 m) – Espuguettes hut (2027 m).
For the first day of the GR10 Trek the group will take a walk in Gavarnie horseshoe up to the Espuguette hut from where the view of the site is incredible!
This is a perfect first day walk before starting the point to point journey.
This walk can be extended by 400 m more climbing to the Hourquette d’Alans (2430 m ).
Walk: Distance 10 km Ascent 680 m Descent 680 m

Day 3: WALK – Gavarnie (1385 m) – Bareges (1247 m)
In the morning the group will follow the GR10 Trek in the direction of Luz Saint Sauveur and will stop at the village of Pragneres. The rest of the trip will be done by public transport from Pragnères to Luz first and then from Luz to Bareges (around 1h40 minutes transfer). This way we keep the best part of the walk, a nice balcony walk on the east bank of the river “Gave de Gavarnie” since the portion from Pragneres is along the road and rather not too interesting.
Walk: Distance 14 km Ascent 500 m Descent 900 m

Day 4: WALK – Bareges (1247 m) – L’Oule hut (1820 m)
This challenging walk will bring the group in the hearth of the central pyrenees. In the morning short transfer to get to the GR 10 track and the group will walk towards the col de Madamete (2509 m) and will enter the stunning Neouvielle reserve park. Plenty of lakes on the menu like the Madamete lake or the Aumar lake, before walking to the L’Oule hut.
Note that luggages transfer is not possible to this hut so you will find your main luggage in Saint Lary.
Walk: Distance 17 km Ascent 1250 m Descent 680 m

Day 5: WALK – L’Oule hut (1820 m) – Saint Lary (840 m)
The group will take the GR10 in the morning and will climb to col du Portet. From there the group will walk down to Saint Lary following the GR10 initially and a local trail with super views of the whole valley.
Stay in a 2 * hotel in Saint Lary for the next two nights.
Walk: Distance 15 km Ascent 650 m Descent 1250 m

Day 6: Free Day in Saint Lary (840 m)
Many options are available on a free day in Saint Lary.
Museums: There are several museums in Saint Lary (for example the museum of bears or of the Pyrenees national park). All are worth a visit.
The thermal baths. The guest can relax in an amazing place with natural water at 32°C, caves and water water falls, jacuzzi and pool.
Mountain biking or road cycling: The guests can also rent a mountain bike and enjoy one of the famous rides around or a road bike and try one of the cols of the tour de France around like Tourmalet or Peyresourde.

Day 7: Saint Lary (840 m) – Loudenvielle (976 m)
A transition stage across two lovely valleys. The group will climb up to the col d’Azet (1580 m) in the morning crossing really nice meadows typical of the Pyrenees, before coming back down to Loudenvielle near the lake Genos. Possibility to extend the walk by 200 to the Tuc du Labatiadere (1737 m).
Walk: Distance 14 km Ascent 800 m Descent 620 m

Day 8: Loudenvielle (976 m) – Grange Asteau (1150 m).
A really lovely walk today in a remote part of the Pyrenees. Initially the group will enter the valley of Aube before getting up to the Esquierry pass (2131 m). From there the guests will be amazed by the beauty of the place and the flowers around. They the descend to the Grange d’Asteau will bring them in a different part of the Pyrenees again very green and surrounded by high mountains like the Espingo peak (2856 m).
Walk: Distance 13 km Ascent 1200 m Descent 1000 m

Day 9: Grange Asteau (1150 m) – Bagnères de Luchon (640 m)
Another challenging and beautiful walk for the guests last day walk of the trip. First the group will climb to the Oo Lake where they can get a refreshment at the local hut, and then a climb to the Coume de Bourg pass (2272 m) before a really nice ridge walk down to the ski resort of Superbagneres. From there two options, either walk down to Bagneres de Luchon or take the cable car down.
Stay in a hotel in Bagneres de Luchon based on two people sharing per rooms.

Day 10: Farewell
The guests will spend the morning at their own pace in Bagneres de Luchon before the transfer to Toulouse airport (1h 45 min).
