Itinerary – Calanques Marseille Walking Holiday

Day 1: Arrival – Transfer to Marseille
Pick up in Marseille airport or Train station and transfer to Marseille
You will be welcomed at the hotel “Mama Shelter” your base for your Calanques Marseille holiday. It is located in a quiet area but less than 15 min walk from the “La Plaine”, one of the most bustling and lively districts in Marseille where you will find a huge variety of restaurants, bars and shops. Easy access to the “Vieux Port” lined by its quays filled with fishing boats and yachts, surrounded by small streets teeming with seafood restaurants and shops. Marseille, the second French city is also a city of arts and culture with 21 museums, theatre and music concerts.

Day 2: Walk Marseille districts: from Le Panier to La Bonne Mère & Vallon des Auffes & Malmousque
The best way to discover Marseille is walking! So today your guide will take you for a city walk to discover the old districts of Marseille as well as some hidden harbours. You will need good shoes as Marseille is all uphill and downhills !
You will be surprised by the mix of ambiances too: from the top of the city hill with Notre Dame de la Garde Cathedral to the narrow streets of the Panier and the sea front paths and little harbours.
Walk: 15 km, 210 m ascent, 6 hours including breaks.

Day 3: Walk – Cote Bleue
In the morning we take the little train to La Redonne from Marseille St Charles train station (30 min journey and superb view over the coast). The coastal walk will take you in an undiscovered part of the French coast, with superb Calanques and spectacular view over Marseilles and the Frioul Island. We will then finish the walk in the little fishing village of Niolon where we take the train back to Marseille.
Walk: 10 km, 500 m ascent, 6 hours including breaks.

Day 4: Walk Marseilleveyre to Calanque of Callelongue
Today the Calanques Marseille  walk will start in town, from Montredon district, to discover a wild area, Marseilleveyre hills, that offers one of the best view over Marseille on one side and then over the Mediterranean sea. Then you walk down to Callanque de Marseilleveyre only accessible by foot or by boat and follow the coast track to finish in Callelongue Calanques.
Walk: 10 km, 500 m ascent, 6h30min including breaks.

Day 5: Walk Frioul Island
Today you will enjoy a short, enjoyable and well sheltered boat trip to the Frioul Island (ticket included).
You can only be charmed by the two island Pomègues and Ratonneau the lovely beaches, sandy creeks, impressive cliffs, the light quality and the water transparency. Still a conservation area, it is an authentic encounter in the Mediterranean sea. The swim possibilities are endless! Boat trip back to Marseille in the evening.
Walk full tour of the two island: 8 km, 350 m ascent, 5 to 6 hours including breaks.

Day 6: La Ciotat – Cap Canaille
Transfer in the morning to La Ciotat and walk back to Cassis through the coastal path. The cliffs of cap Canaille mountain are the highest maritime cliffs of France and among the highest in Europe.
Coming down to Cassis, the view is spectacular over the sea, the Calanques Marseille creeks, the archipelago of Riou islands.
Bus back to the hotel.
Walk: 9 km, 580 m ascent, 6h30 min including breaks.
Day 7: Farewell!
Spend the morning at your own pace before group transfer to train station/airport.
